Many individuals are excluded from housing assistance and suffer from a severe lack of support upon their release from incarceration, resulting in high rates of homelessness among the population. We seek to alleviate this barrier to successful reentry by launching our transitional living program where individuals will have the opportunity to live short-term while they attain education, employment, etc. and reestablish themselves within the community.
Through our partnership with South Bend Work Release, we have made incredible progress in the rehabilitation of our Haven of Hope Reentry Housing in Gary, IN. Men in the work release center, many of whom graduated from our reentry program in Westville prison, have voluntarily helped lay flooring, hang drywall, and have completed a substantial portion of the rehabilitation of our reentry housing.
Some men in the work release center volunteer their time to help with the rehabilitation of our reentry homes out of gratitude for the services we provide. Some volunteer in hopes of living in the homes upon their release from incarceration. Some volunteer simply to make the reentry process easier for other men.
